We went to a ROCK Festival!!
June 1, 2008Well that is what Ffion called it – the weather wasn’t great BUT we had a great day enjoying music from Gordon Giltrap to Fairport Convention and then my favourite Jethro Tull. The girls were very well behaved and were very patient when the grown ups wanted to enjoy some of the longer GIGS.
It was also Katrin’s birthday so we had a party tea sitting outside the back of the car (it kindly stopped raining for a short while too). However she had had a hectic weekend with preparation for the BOWER festival and so fell asleep at the start of Jethro Tull – whilst Ffion sat on my shoulders whooping with excitement.
We had a great time and Mum and Dad (nain and taid) did too…. although next year we are going to order some better weather so that their bones don’t feel so cold.
The girls are already asking when can they go to another one!!

A song about DAD…
May 1, 2008The following song was composed by John to celebrate dads 60th birthday just over a month ago… great effort. It certainly brought lots of smiles and tears to OUR faces.
Happy Birthday Dad…
(G C D – fret 2 or 3…)
Chorus
The Higginsons have travelled here from outside Lancashire
From Liverpool and Lichfield, down from Northumbria
And now we’re here in Macclesfield, raise your glass of beer
Sing Happy birthday to our Dad, the man that brought us here.
Verse 1
As a young lad in Blackburn, his skills he did apply
To hanging round with signalmen and watching trains go by
But soon enough he realised the man that he could be
Sticking his hand up cow’s bums at University
Chorus
Verse 2
Apparently his Elvis act impressed one Annie D
He brought her back to Blackburn to start a family
& he took us all on holiday to the south of France and back
And blunted all the kitchen knives to protect us from attack
Chorus
Verse 3
Your passion to play music in whatever company
Has clearly been inspiring all gathered would agree
But so much more in other ways a role model you’ve been
Thank you dad for all the things that you’ve given to me
Chorus
If you have any really good photos of the weekedn celebrations then send me a copy to put onthe BLOG.
Love and hugs

Halesowen Williams Spectacular!!
April 6, 2008A BIG thankyou to the ORGANISERS… who made Saturdays reunion at Halesowen Athletics Club loads of fun.
Some of us hadn’t seen one another for a few weeks, others a few months, others a year or two others still for almost 10 years SO there was lots of gossip to catch up on.
The food was fantastic and the kids were all really well behaved.
If you want to add any of your photos to this post send me an attachment OR see if you can insert them into a comment below.

February 21, 2008INGLETON TRIP
January 16, 2008Hello Friends and Family
It’s only 2 weeks till we meet up at Ingleton – and we’re so not ready!!
Here’s some thoughts which might get us all into action.
How can we best split up the different groups for sleeping arrangements? There are 6 rooms for six and 4 rooms for 3. (That’s 48 in total for the lazy ones among you.) I suspect our families don’t break up into groups of 3 and 6, so we’ll have to mix and match a bit!
What will we do if it rains SO BAD that we can’t get out on the hills?
Any ideas for transporting the gang? Who all is taking a car? Have any of you got any space for extra bodies?
Right I’ve made a start on this discussion . . . get blogging back with your comments!!
Looking forward to hearing some good ideas -
Ann
The Lichfield Higgy’s 2007 Almanac
December 26, 2007January – Skiing in Levi we’d recommend it to anyone – Katrin skis her first Black run. I get a boys skiing holiday to Avoriaz introducing a friend from work to the joys of telemark skiing – the snow conditions however are VERY thin. Fertile Mari discovers she’s pregnant we are both very excited about there being a NEW addition!!
February – Ffion and Matt go sledging at Castle Ring the whole family enjoys the snow flurry. Katrin goes for a “real” mountain bike ride with her class friend Dan. Matt starts the Fire Service promotion process known as the ADC
March – Ffion has a birthday party at the Snowdome. Matt starts a temporary promotion at Fire Service Headquarters. Matt spends a few days in Scotland chasing winter conditions. A wonderful weekend in Northampton with the Higgy’s. Katrin celebrates the sacrament of reconciliation.
April – Commuting to Stone every day begins to get Matt down… although it gives him a chance to meet new people. Matt qualifies as a Nordic Walking instructor in South Wales. The weeks rush by with both girls having hectic social lives – including gymnastics, swimming lessons, skiing, walking and of course lots of parties.
May –St Josephs win the Bower parade again – with the Great British Panto (Matt dresses as a dame – the high heels are a killer!) A BBQ on the green is almost washed out by the rain. Katrin turns 7… but she is unwell during her birthday party
June – Girls dress up in traditional Welsh dress and are taught some Welsh folk dances by Mari at the schools International Day.
July – Ffion masters riding her bike at Chasewater. Matt returns to Lichfield as a temporary Crew Manager. It is good to be working in the Lichfield area again. Some garden re-shaping includes installing a new fence and putting in a hardcore drive for both of our cars.
August – www.telemark-skiing.co.uk is celebrates its first birthday with the first Midlands Telemark Skiing Festival at the Snowdome. Katrin and Ffion walk from Chasewater to Lichfield. We escape to MK for a few days. The girls get lost in a Maize maze. Katrin and Ffion have a go at climbing – not quite sure what to make of it!!
September – Although the weather hasn’t been too hot Mari is getting fed up of waiting for the arrival of baby – she goes on maternity leave after only 4 days of the new school term. Matt learns that he has a permanent position as a Crew Manager at Lichfield. The girls rush back to school full of energy Katrin is now a junior with attitude.
October – Fraser joins us, over a week late, on the 11th October… Mari gets a promotion to Team Leader after attending a job interview only 2 weeks later. Katrin and Ffion take part in their first Gymnastics competition. Halloween spooks visit Lichfield from Cardiff great fun for all. Mari is out walking on Cannock Chase only a couple of weeks after her caesarean section.
November – The Stanleys invite us to a fantastic Autumn Ball – Fraser steals the show. Katrin takes part in her first X-country race. Fraser makes his first trip to Blackburn. The first snowfall – how exciting!! The Walking Bus is started with Matt as co-ordinator.
December – Matt takes his telemark skiing clients to Hafjell, Norway – great feedback. Fraser plays a lead role as baby Jesus in the nativity scene at the Fire Service Christmas carol concert.
